In her artistic practice, Karolina Żądło engages in a critical dialogue with the traditional image of women. Drawing on the aesthetics of the past, she creates works that bear traces of earlier eras while opening a space for discussion about contemporary tensions related to gender and identity.
The painting The Fleeting Taste of a Strawberry or a Wild Strawberry refers to Hieronymus Bosch’s The Garden of Earthly Delights through the motif of the garden as a space of sensual pleasure, yet one devoid of excess and moral anxiety. The title evokes the symbolism of fruit as fleeting delight, existing only as the trace of an experience. The taste of pleasure does not lead to catastrophe; it simply disappears.
Karolina Żądło (b. 1999) is a Polish painter and graduate of the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, where she received her diploma with distinction in 2024. She lives and works in Kraków.
Her works have been shown, among others, at Zachęta – National Gallery of Art (Warsaw), Galeria Prześwit (Warsaw), Otwarta Pracownia (Kraków), Galeria Van Rij (Kraków), Her Clique Gallery (Lisbon), Wallspace Gallery (Warsaw), and Borowik Foundation (Warsaw). In 2025, she made her international debut with the exhibition We Have No Troubles Here, presented as a duo with Ewa Czwartos at GNYP Gallery in Berlin.
