In October 2024, Omenaa Mensah and the OmenaArt Foundation, along with donors and friends of the foundation, visited Ghana for Accra Cultural Week 2024, one of the most significant events promoting contemporary African art. During this visit, the philanthropist inaugurated the construction of the Kids Haven Sport & Art Complex, a modern sports and arts center supporting international cultural exchange. The event was attended by representatives from the governments of Poland and Ghana: Marta Cienkowska from the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, and Geoffrey Tamakloe from Ghana’s Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, as well as notable figures from the art world, including Polish artists Ida Karkoszka and Igor Dobrowolski, Ghanaian painter Larry Amponsah, and Nigerian curator Azu Nwagbogu.
Initiated by the OmenaArt Foundation, the Kids Haven Sport & Art Complex will soon become a space for artistic residencies, attracting creators from around the world. In this unique venue, artists will have the opportunity to work, exhibit their creations, and co-create the “Art Garden” – a sculpture space that expresses creativity and diverse cultural perspectives.
Accra Cultural Week 2024 brought together many prominent artists and curators from Africa and the diaspora, creating a unique platform for dialogue and showcasing diverse forms of art. One of the program’s highlights was the “Keeping Time” exhibition, curated by Ekow Eshun, which featured works by 25 African artists exploring themes of time, identity, and transformation. Accra Cultural Week also provided an opportunity to meet distinguished figures from Ghana’s art scene, including Ibrahim Mahama, Serge Attukwei Clottey, and Professor Ablade Glover.
At the same time, the OmenaArt Foundation announced the awarding of scholarships for top art students from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana. These scholarships aim to support talented students facing financial challenges, enabling them to continue their studies and contribute to the future of Ghana’s art scene.
