In 1962, Picelj initiated a series of his self-published “Edition a” art booklets, having released a total of seven publications up until 1964. Each issue of “Edition a” featured the work of one artist —mostly of a colleague whose work he admired.

TOP CHARITY

TOP CHARITY brings together art, business and philanthropy, transforming the commitment of artists, collectors and entrepreneurs into support for social, educational and cultural projects. Launched in 2022 by Omenaa Mensah and Rafał Brzoska, the initiative was founded on the belief that success takes on a special meaning when it also benefits others. An international community is growing around this idea, bringing together people for whom art collecting, social responsibility and collaboration are part of a shared endeavour.

At the heart of the project is the TOP CHARITY Gala – an art auction coordinated by OmenaArt Foundation. The selection of artworks is overseen by the Art Council, which reviews proposals throughout the year, meets with artists and collectors, and works with art market professionals. As a result, each edition presents a diverse range of media, generations and perspectives, bringing established names together with artists developing their international presence.

The project culminates in a gala where artworks are auctioned alongside “Great Emotions” – exceptional experiences, journeys, encounters and special projects created by the initiative’s partners. Its artistic dimension, however, extends far beyond a single evening. Held since 2023, the TOP CHARITY ART exhibitions offer wider audiences the opportunity to discover works by participating artists and explore the connections between art, culture and social engagement.

More Than an Auction

Funds raised through TOP CHARITY support the work of Omenaa Foundation, Rafał Brzoska Foundation, OmenaArt Foundation and the Philanthropic Consortium. They help advance education for children and young people, scholarship programmes, charitable initiatives, artistic projects and heritage conservation. Since 2023, 30% of auction proceeds have been allocated to the Philanthropic Consortium, which works with other organisations to extend the reach of this support in Poland and internationally.

For the artistic community, TOP CHARITY offers both a platform to present creative work and support for professional development programmes.

For collectors and business partners, the project provides an opportunity to combine their interest in art with meaningful social engagement. For cultural institutions and audiences, it brings new exhibitions, educational activities and support for heritage conservation. One example is the conservation work at Wilanów Palace funded by OmenaArt Foundation using proceeds raised at the TOP CHARITY Gala.

The History of the Project

Between 2022 and 2026, five annual editions of TOP CHARITY were held in Poland. In September 2026, the project took place abroad for the first time as TOP CHARITY Venice Experience. The Venice edition extended the initiative’s fifth season and marked another step in building its international community.

2026 – The First International Edition: TOP CHARITY Venice Experience

10 September 2026, Venice, Italy

The first international edition of TOP CHARITY brought together representatives of the worlds of art, business and culture around a shared philanthropic mission. Continuing the dialogue between Europe and Africa, the Venice edition turned its attention to Ethiopia and its heritage. Its theme drew on the legend of the Queen of Sheba and King Solomon, interpreted as a story of wisdom, curiosity about the world and responsible leadership. The highlight of the evening was the auction of Andy Warhol’s 1973 portrait “Katie Jones”, which sold for €1,150,000.

Other selected artworks offered at auction: Cornelius Annor, “Nkrumah Pencil”; Xawery Wolski, “Links of Infinity”; Raphael Adjetey Adjei Mayne, “One Corner”; Ewa Czwartos, “The Graces”; Tegene Kunbi, “Imperial Garden”; Nikol Andonova – NIKYOTO, “Molten Marble”.

2022 – The Beginning of a Shared Story

22 May 2022, Warsaw, Poland

The first edition of TOP CHARITY, originally known as the “Grand Charity Auction”, brought together painting, sculpture and design. The auction catalogue featured 15 lots, including works by established Polish artists and members of a younger generation. The highest price for an artwork was achieved by Tomasz Górnicki’s sculpture “Synthesis” from the “Silver” series, which sold for PLN 340,000.

Selected artworks offered at auction: Igor Mitoraj, “Perseus”; Wilhelm Sasnal, “Tick Tock”; Rafał Olbiński, “Sans parole”; Adam Myjak, a work from the “Winged Figures” series; Jarosław Modzelewski, “Winter View”; Agata Kus, “A Girl’s Tears”; Oskar Zięta, “120 Helix Nebula”.

A Shared Future

TOP CHARITY is developing a model of collaboration in which the auction is the starting point for further action. The funds raised make projects possible, while the relationships built around art connect people and institutions across borders. In this model, philanthropy means not only providing support, but also sharing responsibility for the development of education, culture and future generations.

We invite artists from Poland and around the world to help shape TOP CHARITY. Donating an artwork to the auction is not only a gesture of solidarity, but also an opportunity to present your art to an international community of collectors, patrons and project partners, and to build meaningful relationships. We would be delighted to discuss opportunities to participate in future editions and explain the terms of collaboration. Contact: [email protected].

Art inspires. Working together turns that inspiration into real impact.
