Tadeusz Łodziana is regarded as one of the most important Polish sculptors of the 20th century. A highly respected educator, Łodziana spent decades mentoring young artists at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts, significantly shaping the development of Polish sculpture in the second half of the 20th century. In his artistic vision, the human form and its representations transcend physicality Like many of his works, Bird is characterised by formal simplicity and the deliberate omission of detail. The observed elegance lies in its soft, gently curving lines. Its smooth, polished surface highlights the innate beauty of the material, lending the work an industrial clarity without losing its sensual rhythm. The form remains fluid and spacious—open to movement and the surrounding air.

Tadeusz Łodziana (1920 – 2011) was a sculptor and a highly respected educator. In the 1950s and 1960s, he was part of a generation of artists who moved away from socialist realism, steering Polish sculpture towards modern, harmonious, abstract forms. His work is known for its synthesis and refined simplicity, reducing forms to their most essential expression. Łodziana created numerous monuments, outdoor sculptures, and portraits, and his works have been presented at prestigious exhibitions both in Poland and abroad, including the renowned 2nd Exhibition of Modern Art at Zachęta in Warsaw, the Polish Cultural Institute in Vienna, Galerie Witte-Baumgarte in Berlin, Galerie Akka-Valma in Paris, and the National Museum in Warsaw.
