Olga Mokrzycka-Grospierre is the author of paintings on canvas, wood, and concrete, as well as site-specific installations. Mermaid with a Fan belongs to the artist’s Mermaids series, initiated in 2020. Three works from this series are now held in the collection of the Museum of Warsaw.
The artist has been developing figurative painting cycles on black grounds, using a proprietary technique inspired by Zen painting practice. Her paintings emerge from a series of deliberate, concentrated brushstrokes—each action requiring complete focus, as any mistake necessitates starting anew. The final composition resembles an X-ray image, capturing essence through reduction.
Olga Mokrzycka-Grospierre (b. 1976) graduated from the Faculties of Painting and Set Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. She has created stage designs for productions at Warsaw’s Nowy Teatr and Teatr Studio.
Her works are held in both public and private collections, including the National Museum in Warsaw, the Museum of Warsaw, the Signum Foundation, and the Foundation of Polish Modern Art.
